When resistance is called for
you need a visible difference

Domite’s® hardened face is an alloyed, cast high carbon chromium – molybdenum white iron and conforms to the ASTM A532 Class II and responds to heat treatment. Domite® can be softened to around 400 BHN for machining purposes and then re-hardened to a minimum of 650 BHN for maximum resistance. The as-cast, heat treated microstructure is uniform throughout with discrete vs interconnected carbides.
To overcome the brittle nature of white irons and to allow for easy installation via welding, studding, bolting or other
attachments, Domite® incorporates the latest diffusion bonding technology to metallurgically bond the white iron to a tough, ductile, easy to weld mild steel backing plate. The diffusion bond has a very high shear strength with a minimum 250 Mpa and will not separate.
Thanks to the metallurgically bonded mild steel backing plate Domite® Laminated Wear Parts are not only magnetic, but the tight bonding procedure holds the Domite® in place overcoming the brittle nature of white irons. Should the Domite® crack, the diffusion bond will hold the Domite® securely to the mild steel thereby reducing maintenance and unit costs while improving safety. Domite® thus becomes “failsafe.”
Superior to mechanical or bi-metallic designs thanks to the metaullurgical diffusion bond, Domite® can withstand the toughest impact and abrasion environments.
Typical Domite® parts are based on the design and criteria of producing a solid cast component, usually with thicknesses in the range of 3/16”-3” (5 mm – 75 mm) for the Domite® face and 1/8”-1.0” (3 mm – 25 mm) for the mild steel backing plate. The general thickness ratio for sound parts is typically 3:1 Domite® to Steel Backing but any range can be provided. Sizes of parts can also vary based on request but are generally limited in size to one piece of 20” x 20” (600 mm x 600 mm). These ratios are guides only, and, in practical applications many different combinations of length, width, and thickness are possible
.
Bars and irregular shapes can be produced providing the dimensional limitations for good castability are upheld. In the case of irregular shapes or contoured surfaces, a flat back is necessary for bonding.
To cover large areas several castings per backing plate may be used. Fabrication can be provided to cover any practical area.
Domite® can withstand continuous operations at elevated temperatures of at least 425 C (800F) and frigid Temperatures of -50 C (-120 F). Prolonged service at temperatures greater than 600 to 1000 C (1100 to 1850F) tends to reduce the hardness of the white iron and is not recommended for Domite®.
Easy attachment is achieved through the mild steel backing plate which can be directly welded into place with no special pre-or-post heating. Direct and counter-sunk bolt holes can be cast through the parts for quick applications. Welded attachments such as Nelson Studs can also be added directly to the steel backing eliminating through bolting which can cause accelerated channeling from the bolt holes. peak to our experienced team in designing a unique part custom to your operation, or choose from our full line of standard products available in stock for quick deliveries and rush jobs.
